Abstract

468,006. Storing liquefied gases. LINDE AIR PRODUCTS CO. April 23, 1936, No. 11552. Convention date, May 16, 1935. [Class 8 (ii)] [Also in Group XIII] Liquefied gas, e.g. acetylene, oxygen or carbon dioxide, is stored in a vessel 17 surrounded by a medium such as solid carbon dioxide capable of absorbing heat by change of state without increase of temperature, while the pressure of the liquefied gas is maintained at least equal to the equilibrium vapour pressure at the constant temperature maintained. The receptacle for the solid carbon dioxide &c. is surrounded by gaseous or solid insulation 16, e.g. wool, silk, asbestos, magnesia, or slag wool within an outer casing 12. A metallic cup may be embedded in the insulation surrounding the receptacle of carbon dioxide &c., and the liquid and vapour discharge pipes for the liquefied gas may be coiled in contact with this cup. The discharge pipe for the carbon dioxide vapour may have a perforated portion within the insulating casing which is then fitted with an outlet valve ; or the casing and lid may each be fitted with breather traps containing hygroscopic material for passage of air. The solid carbon dioxide may be mixed with acetone or alcohol. Specification 252,385, [Class 29], is referred to.
