[Class 29] In a rotating cooling drum a the interior of which is connected by a stationary hollow shaft f to a eompression refrigerating plant, the shaft supports a float l which actuates a valve m to open or close the feed pipe k for the liquid refrigerating medium supplied to the drum. The movement of the float is damped by surrounding it with an apertured box n suspended from the shaft and also by affixing a scraper p to the shaft which constantly returns part of the liquid flung out to the inner surface of the drum back to the box n, A collar e secured concentrically with the shaft traps incoming lubricant from the stuffing box g into the drum and returns it through the vapour outlet pipe h.
