Abstract

Rubber threads are made by mixing latex with an extensibility-reducing agent of the kind referred to below in such an amount as will render the threads sufficiently inextensible to be conveniently manipulated when making them into a fabric, sheeting the mix and cutting the sheet into thread. The extensibility-reducing agents are those described in Specifications 447,972, 448,098, 449,314, 449,462, and 459,434 and may be for example glue, gelatine, casein albumen or similar proteins; water-soluble gums, natural or synthetic resins, cellulose esters or ethers such as methyl cellulose; or sugar or sodium silicate. The extensibility of the thread or fabric made from the thread may be restored by treating it with hot water, with or without simultaneous vulcanization or dyeing of the thread or fabric. The inextensible thread may be steamed with simultaneous stretching, dried and then in the stretched condition made into fabric.
