Abstract

[Class 78 (i)] [Also in Groups XVII, XVI, and XVIII] In a machine for making packets of medicinal powders and the like, the powder is delivered to the wrapper in a consolidated lump to avoid lateral spreading. The hopper 92, Fig. 1, is provided with a spindle 93 carrying a wire ring agitator 94 and a presser blade 95 which forces a charge of powder into a depression 98 in a carrier 97. The carrier is actuated by an oscillating arm to move from the position shown in Fig. 1 to that shown in Fig. 6, turning sharply about a right-angle to strike against a channelled guide 108, which, with the carrier 97, forms a delivery spout for the powder. The part 98 is pivoted so that it strikes the guide and knocks the powder out. The turning movements of the carrier are caused by the action of a cam rail 99.
