Abstract
466,788. Making cans. AMERICAN CAN CO. Dec. 4, 1935, No. 33587. Convention date, May 25. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Joints.-In side seam metallic containers in which the seam is made by continuous " stitch welding," the welding is only carried to such distance from the ends of the seam as will obviate extrusion of metal. When an end 21 is fixed in position by a double seam joint the point a-a, Figs. 4 and 5, at which the welding stops is completely enclosed in the turns 22 of the end 21. A gasket 23 may be incorporated in the seams of the cans, which may be used for beer.
