Abstract

466,039. Wood-screws. JASPER, C. H. Nov. 20, 1935, No. 32229. [Class 89 (ii)] A clamping screw has the screw-threaded part of its shank longitudinally slotted to render it self-tapping, the unthreaded cylindrical shank portion carrying clamping means capable of operation without screwing or unscrewing the screw as a whole. In one form, the cylindrical part of the shank is threaded at its outer end to receive a nut In a modification, Fig. 2, the head of the shank is provided with a two-part ring or eye, the part 10 being integral with the shank, and the part 11 detachably secured thereto by a screw 12. In a modification, the countersunk head has a central threaded bore to receive a screw. According to a further feature, the screwthreaded shank portion has a bore 17, Fig. 4, open at its leading end and communicating through transverse passages 18 with the slots 6, so that dust or grit is discharged into the bottom part of the bore 14. The slots may be helical. A wood-screw is shown, but any other form of thread may be used.
