[Class 40 (iv.)] [Also in Group XL] In a loud-speaker cabinet or like soundreproducing apparatus, cabinet resonance at particular frequencies is diminished by the provision of one or more substantially freely movable tuned diaphragms, which are responsive to the frequencies it is desired to suppress and are mounted so as to be subject to considerable damping. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, three such sound-absorbing units 3, 3a are supported on the front wall 1 of a cabinet around a loud-speaker unit 2. Each unit 3, 3a comprises a tuned conical diaphragm 5 of parchment paper or the like secured at its apex to a disc 10 which in turn is fixed to a damping strip 6 of rubber or similar material. The strip 6 and the outer rim of the diaphragm 5 are attached to a supporting frame 4, the diaphragm for this purpose preferably being formed with integral corrugations 15 and an annular mounting ring 14, while the support 4 is itself mounted in an opening in the cabinet wall. In a modification, Fig. 6, the diaphragm 5 is connected by a rod 21 to a plate 20 located between layers 6a of felt or like damping material.
