Abstract
465,140. Coating yarns. ASHWORTH, P. Nov. 2, 1935, No. 30302. [Class 140] [Also in Groups IX and XIII] In apparatus for treating yarns with liquid such as water, dye, or size and subsequently drying them wherein a number of yarns simultaneously pass over a furnishing roller 7 supplied with liquid from a trough 11, then through a comb or reed 20, a drying chamber 24, and another comb or reed 28 before being wound up, guide means 19 is provided between the furnishing roller 7 and the reed 20 which separates the yarns into a number of rows situated at different heights, the yarns being maintained apart while passing through the drying chamber and until dry. The guide means consists of positively rotated rods or rollers 19, and either the rods 19 or the reed 20 may be laterally reciprocated. The yarns are drawn from a pair of spaced creels 1, through a reed or comb 3, over a raised guide roller 4, through an adjustable reed 10, around a driven roller 6 mounted on pivoted arms 9, and between a pressure roller 8 and the furnishing roller 7. The trough 11 is supported by four slidable pins 12, 14 engaging corner lugs 16, so that it may be tilted or completely removed for cleaning. After the drying chamber 24 the yarns pass through an adjustable tension device 29, 30, 31 around a roller 33 and are wound up on a roller 34. One, two, or more yarns are wound separately on bobbins placed upon driven spindles 36, such bobbins when full being placed upon pegs 43. When a yarn breaks, the machine is stopped and yarn from a bobbin 43 used for piecing to the broken ends. The joined yarn is returned to the drying chamber through a slot running the whole length of the top of the chamber, guide horns 27 being provided. A lease reed 45 may be provided in front of roller 30 so that an end-and-end lease may be taken. The yarns are measured before and after the wetting &c. treatment and drying, so that the amount of stretch can be estimated.
