Abstract
464,958. Rubber threads. SPENCER, W. M. April 17, 1936, No. 11097. Convention date, April 20, 1935. [Class 70] In the production of rubber threads by drawing latex or the like by capillary attraction into grooves on a heated moving member, the latex is caused to flow into contact with the collecting member, and then flow away in a downward direction. The latex may be drawn into the grooves in a plurality of layers, and may be caused to flow in a direction concurrent or countercurrent to that of the collecting member. A heated drum D, Fig. 1, provided with collecting grooves 28, Fig. 3, separated by deeper grooves 29 is adjustably positioned above latex containers 8, 9 having baffles 14 perforated at their lower ends and curved weirs W over which latex flows into pockets L<1>. Adjustment is preferably made so that the edges of the grooves 28 just make contact with the surface of the latex, but in no case should the latex level extend above the deepest recess of the grooves 28. The threads Ta are stripped by a roller 40, vulcanized on a grooved drum 41, dusted in a chamber 45, and wound on a spool 52.
