Abstract

463,794. Pipe joints. MATZKA, W. Aug. 29, 1935, No. 24124. [Class 99 (i)] [Also in Groups VI, XIII, and XXXVI] In apparatus for heating liquids consisting of a number of horizontally-supported pipe assemblies each consisting of three tubes 4, 5, 6, a jacket 8 is provided surrounding the ends of each pair of tubes 4 and having a space by which the water may flow from the space between the lower to that between the upper tubes 4, 5 and is tightened in position by a collar 11 held by bolts 13 pivoted to the frame 2 of the apparatus and nuts 12, washers 14 and rubber rings 15 being interposed. The tubes 5 extend through jacket 8 and terminate within a jacket 9 which has a large connecting space 10 to facilitate mixing of the liquid under treatment. The tubes 6 are connected by an elbow 3. The elbow 3 is tightened on by a screw 16 working in a member 17 pivoted to the frame 2, washers 18 and rubber rings 19 being interposed. Some or all of washers 14, 18 may have terminals 20 for connection to a source of electric current which is thereby fed to tubes 5, 6.
