Abstract
463,599. Centrifugal superchargers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 14, 1936, No. 19556. Convention date, July 19, 1935. [Class 110 (i)] Centrifugal superchargers for multi-cylinder engines consist of an impeller 19, a diffuser 27, and a collectorpassage 18 surrounding the impeller chamber and having a plurality of. outlets, the concentric diffuser comprising a plurality of vanes with side walls having lateral openings intermediate the outer ends of the vanes to discharge the medium laterally and outwardly. This effect is produced by making the side walls of saw-tooth formation. The impeller is driven by gearing 25 on a shaft 23 mounted in the crank-shaft 11. The collector passage 18 has spaced outlets 28 leading to the engine cylinders. In Fig. 1, the diffuser is placed centrally in the passage 18, but in a modification it is placed to one side and may have only one wall 57, Fig. 4, extended at 59 to form one wall of the impeller chamber.
