463,452. Ships' steering gear. CLARKE, CHAPMAN & CO., Ltd., and WOODESON, W. A. Nov. 8, 1935, No. 30914. [Class 114] In a ship's steering-gear wherein the rudder head 15 is connected with a screw 13 and nut 14 by links, there is included in each connection a buffer comprising a spring 8 mounted between collars 5, 6 on a rod 7 with one eye connection 1, and within a casing 11 carrying the other eye connection 9. The collar 5 is disposed against a stepped portion of the rod 7 to move therewith for compression stresses and the collar 5 abuts against a nut thereon to move therewith under tension stresses ; each collar being adapted to abut against fixed parts of the casing 11 when stationary.
