Abstract

463,139. Vehicle brakes. BENDIX, Ltd., and ROBERTS, G. P. Oct. 18, 1935, No. 28793. [Class 103 (i)] In brake-transmission mechanism for vehicles the pressure applied to the rear wheel brakes, after it has attained a predetermined value, is progressively decreased. The rod a is connected to the brake pedal and the rod f to the rear-wheel brakes. The rods a, f are connected by a lever b, pivoted at c on a lug d having an extension e<1> in a casing h. The lug d, and the casing h are guided by fixed parts k, g of the vehicle. When the brakes are first applied the parts a, b, f, d, h move as a unit until the braking pressure overcomes a spring n and allows the parts d, e<1> to move relatively to the casing h and cause a coned bead l of the part e<1> to spread the balls or rollers m into engagement with the fixed part k thus locking stationary the parts h, d and the pivot c about which the lever b now rocks thus moving the rod f against the action of a spring r in the opposite direction to which it moved initially and the pressure on the rear brakes is consequently reduced.
