Abstract
462,772. Discharge devices. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Feb. 7, 1936, No. 3810. Convention date, Feb. 8, 1935. [Class 39 (i)] A cathode - glow discharge device for use as a voltage regulator has electrodes in the form of two opposed dishes 5, 8, the exterior surfaces of which are coated with finely powdered aluminium to restrict the discharge to the opposed inner surfaces, one or both of which are coated with a mixture of barium and strontium carbonates reduced after the electrodes are mounted in an envelope ; a nitrocellulose binder is used for the aluminium. The gap between the electrodes is of the order of 1-2 mm. and is so small that there is no anode fall. The filling consists of neon containing 8 per cent of argon at a pressure of 42À5 mm. ; other fillings wherein the principal constituent has a metastable potential in excess of the ionizing potential of the diluent may be used, such as krypton with neon or argon with helium. Specifications 397,107, 411,931 ; and 431,736, [Group XXVI], are referred to.
