[Classes 120 (i), 120 (ii), and 120 (iii)] In the production of a sliver or slivers on a revolving-flat carding-engine, the latter is fed with a lap of slivers upon a beam, the individual slivers being obtained from the full width of a roller and clearer carding machine supplied with cotton or other fibres by an automatically controlled hopper feeder having an automatic weighing feed device. Slivers of different fibres may be used in the lap to obtain from the revolving flat carding-engine a sliver or slivers of any desired blend. The clothing on the main cylinder of the carding-engine may be divided into sections with gaps therebetween each section being supplied with a lap of slivers and delivering a separate sliver to a coiling can, while the carding engine may also be provided with drafting rollers whicn draft the sliver or each sliver on its way from the calender rollers to the coiling can. Means may be provided for varying the speed or interrupting the action of the drawing rollers to produce fancy yarns. Three pairs of drawing rollers a, b, c, Fig. 1, may be provided in adjustable brackets i, j and driven at different speeds, the back pair being weighted by a loose roller d and the other two pairs by shoes e connected by a rod f to a weighted lever g. If desired, two rollers b<1>, b<1> carried in a frame o, Fig. 3, may be substituted for the upper roller of the intermediate pair b.
