Abstract

459,143. Regulating air pumps. CROSS, R. C., 33, Midford Road, Odd Down, Bath. July 1, 1935, No. 18763. [Class 8 (i)] The rotary discharge valve 11 of a compresser is formed with a port 16 having an inclined leading edge 18 which co-operates with the discharge port 14 in the cylinder. The valve is movable axially by the pressure in the discharge pipe 5 in order to delay the opening of the port 14 in accordance with the pressure in the passage 5. Dogs 10 on the valve 11 engage dogs 9 on the inlet valve 6 which is driven by means of a chain on a sprocket wheel 8. The bore for the valves is provided with a liner 3. The suction valve of a vacuum pump may be constructed in a similar manner.
