Abstract
Fast even dyeings on half-wool or mixtures of wool and linen are produced by first treating the material with an agent yielding oxygen, then grounding with an alkaline solution of an o-hydroxyaryl carboxylic acid arylide which advantageously contains a highly active wetting agent, dehydrating by squeezing and developing with a diazo solution. According to examples: (1) half-wool is treated over-night in aqueous hydrogen peroxide containing sodium pyrophosphate, rinsed, dried, padded with 1-(2<1> : 3<1>-hydroxynaphthoylamino) - 2 - methyl - 4 - chlorobenzene, alcohol, caustic soda, formaldehyde, oleylmethyltaurine, sulphite cellulose waste liquor and sulphonated oleic acid ethylanilide, squeezed, developed with diazotized 1-amino-2-methyl-4-chlorobenzene containing the reaction product of ethylene oxide (20 mols.) and octodecyl alcohol (1 mol.), passed through air, rinsed, after-treated with a solution containing oleylmethyltaurine and acetic acid and rinsed; an even bright red is obtained; a fabric from wool (25 per cent) and linen (75 per cent) may be similarly dyed; (2) half-wool is bleached as in (1), grounded with a solution of 1-(2<1> : 3<1>-hydroxynaphthoylamino) - 4 - methoxybenzene, alcohol, formaldehyde, caustic soda, oleylmethyltaurine and sodium chloride, squeezed, developed with a solution of diazotized 1-amino-2-methoxy-4-nitrobenzene containing the above ethylene oxide-octodecyl alcohol condensation product and acetic acid and finished as above (even bordeaux-red); (3) an even brown shade is obtained using 1-(2<1> : 3<1>-hydroxycarbazolecarboylamino)-4-chlorobenzene as in (2).
