Abstract
<PICT:0457282/IV/1> Yarns in warp form, or single yarns, or a relatively small number of yarns, are treated simultaneously intermittently with liquid, such as in the intermittent saponification of artificial yarns of cellulose esters, or in the dyeing, mordanting, discharging or the like of yarns of cotton, wool or the like, in an apparatus comprising a plurality of slats adjustably and removably secured to a flexible base which is guided by guide members to pass through the liquid to be applied and to contact with the yarns. The flexible base may, as shown, comprise two or more chains, 11, guided over pairs of sprocket wheels 7, 8, 9, 10, of which the lower pair 10 is immersed in a bath 1. These chains may comprise parallel plates some of which carry wings at right angles thereto, in longitudinal slots in which or in the slats, the latter are adjustably secured. The slats are arranged in any desired pattern arrangement and the guiding members 3, 4 may be adjusted to accommodate flexible bases carrying patterns of different lengths. If desired, the guiding members and flexible base may be mounted on a frame which may be lifted into or out of the bath as a whole so that a flexible base with one pattern may be assembled while a bath is in use with a base of another pattern.
