[Class 80 (ii)] [See also Group XXXI] Comprises a floating driving unit having a power input member and a power output member, the latter being coupled by elastic means to a wheel or axle of a vehicle, and the unit being supported from the wheel or the axle by elastic means including or consisting of the first-mentioned elastic means. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, a rail wheel 1 fixed to an axle 2 is driven from a member 6 through a flat rubber ring 7 clamped by bolts 9, 12 to the parts 1, 6. The member 6 is centred relatively to the axle 2 by a pin 13, which projects from the axle into an elastic sleeve 15 enclosed in a recess in a hub 16 formed on the member 6. A bevel wheel 20 is keyed on the hub 16 and is driven from a driving coupling 5 through reversing gear 21, 22. The hub 16, the bevel wheel 20, and the reversing gear are carried by bearings 17, 19, 23, 29 in a casing 4 which is prevented from rotating by a torque member 32 connected to the chassis. The member 6 may be driven through change-speed gearing or hydraulic or electric transmission apparatus. In the construction shown in Fig. 3, the gear casing 4<1> is mounted on the axle 2<1> which is driven by a member 6<1> through a rubber disc or flat ring 7<1>, the member 6<1> being supported on the axle by a rubber sleeve 15<1>. The ring 7 or 7<1> may comprise several rings or segments.
