Abstract

455,960. Typewriters. FAIRWEATHER, W. C., 65, Chancery Lane, London.-(Underwood Elliott Fisher Co. ; 1, Park Avenue, New York, U.S.A.) June 4, 1936, No. 15609. [Class 100 (iv)] Paper-carriages.-Carriages having sliding bearing on a guide-rail are provided with spring counterbalancing-means for reducing friction at the bearing. The carriage 18 shown in the Figure is provided with bearing-shoes 22 engaging a guide-rail 23, and friction at the bearings is reduced by means of one or more springs 38 which abut on the guide-rail and partly counterbalance the carriage. Preferably, each spring is secured at one end to the carriage and is provided at the other end with a ballbearing roller 51 engaging the guide-rail, the pressure being adjusted by means of a screw 45. The spring may consist of a number of leaves.
