Abstract
455,296. Nailing. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., and ROBERTS, W. T. B., Belgrave Road, Leicester. April 17, 1935, No. 11798. [Class 89 (iii)] The driver passage 6 of a mechanism for inserting headed fasteners, particularly for incorporation in toe-lasting machines, is formed with a recess in one wall, at which is located the straight lower end 10<1> of a leaf spring 10. Normally, the end 10<1> is inclined somewhat into the passage, so that it engages one side of the tack head and presses the other side against the fixed wall of the passage. The driver 8 is of less diameter than the tack head, or is reduced at its lower end. Thus, the spring centralizes the tack for a substantial part of its travel, at least until its point has penetrated the work. The lower end of the driver may be concave, or bevelled in one direction if the tack is to be driven at an inclination. Specifications 370,024 and 419,938 are referred to.
