Abstract

453,993. Filling and capping bottles. DAWSON BROS., Ltd., DAWSON, G., and DAWSON, D. H., Ventnor Tank & Ironworks, Gomersal, near Leeds. Jan. 30, 1936, No. 2790. [Classes 125 (ii) and 125 (iii)] A bottle filling and capping machine is combined with a cap-making apparatus and the caps formed in the cap - making apparatus are taken by an endless conveyer to the filling and capping portion of the machine, compressed air or other fluid means being provided for moving the caps on to the conveyer as they are formed and off said conveyer into register with the bottles brought to the capping position. As shown, strip aluminium 3 is fed from a reel 4 to a stamping head 11 where the caps are formed and blown by air jets 19 into pockets 17 on an intermittently - actuated endless conveyer 14 ; the waste strip is wound upon a reel 13. The conveyer takes the caps to a position opposite the capping means where they are blown from the conveyer on to ledges in the capping head by jets 27, the jets 27 being provided with valves which are opened when a bottle 28 engages a trip lever 36 linked to the valve ; if a bottle is absent from any capping head, the corresponding cap is not delivered to the head. The capping heads may be adjustable to suit the height of the bottles being filled and capped and interchangeable shoots are then provided to lead the caps from the conveyer to the capping heads. The filling and capping heads are of any usual construction.
