Abstract

453,694. Lighting systems for road vehicles ; vehicle-lamp supports. SHRAPNEL, H. J., 22, Navarino Road, Worthing, Sussex. March 10, 1936, No. 7203. [Classes 75 (iii) and 75 (iv)] A system of lighting for road vehicles comprises a number of auxiliary lamps a, b, c, all mounted in different positions underneath the vehicle, but not on its extreme offside edge, so as to throw beams of light in different directions to illuminate the off-side of the road surface centrally and to the front and rear without throwing light rays upwardly above the underside of the vehicle. The beams preferably overlap, as shown in Fig. 3, the near side of the road may be illuminated in a similar manner, and a two-way switch may be provided to switch off the head lamps when the auxiliary lamps are switched on. Each auxiliary lamp may be fitted with a cylindrical snield h Fig. 4, and may be universally adjusted with respect to the chassis frame by means of an attachment clip f, a bracket d, and a fitting e.
