Abstract

452,958. Vehicle hoods. BRYNER, E., 27, Waidstrasse, Zurich, Switzerland. Oct. 25. 1935, No. 29563. [Class 108 (i)] A vehicle hood is adapted to be opened and closed by means of an electric motor which is located at the rear of the vehicle but can be controlled from the driver's seat and which drives a screwed spindle, the nut of which is connected to the hood. The vehicle hood comprises cant rails 1, 2 pivoted together at 3, the rear cant rail 2 being pivoted to the falling pillar 5 at 4 and the falling pillar itself being pivoted at 7 by means of an extension 6. Power means for extending and collapsing the hood comprises an electric motor operating a screwed spindle 18 through worm gearing 22, 23, a nut 20 on the spindle 18 being linked to a two-armed lever 16 pivoted to the body at 15 and the lever 16 being linked to the falling pillar at 5<1> and to a lever 1 pivoted at 12 to a member which is pivoted at its other end to the cant rail 2. Switch means are provided for the motor 21 and comprise a switch 28 which when moved on to contact 0 energizes a solenoid 29 to withdraw the bolt 27 engaging the hook 26 on the front bow 1 resting on the top of the windscreen. On this withdrawal of the bolt 27 a contact plate 30 completes a circuit through contacts 31, 32 to rotate the motor to collapse the hood. On completion of collapsing the lever 16 breaks the circuit by pressing against spring controlled contacts 33. To extend the hood the switch is moved to S and the circuit t is completed through contacts 35, 36, the hook 26 on completion of the operation pressing back the contact plate 30 against the spring 34 and so breaking the circuit.
