452,548. Cigarette-making machines. UNIVERSELLE CIGARETTENMASCHINEN FABRIK J. C. MULLER & CO., 48, Zwickauerstrasse, Dresden, Germany. Nov. 21, 1935, No. 32305. Convention date, Jan. 10. [Class 130] In the manufacture of filter plugs for cigarettes and the like, a strip 2 consisting of thin layers of crepe paper cellulose wadding or the like is fed over a table 4 into engagement with a cylinder or disc 30 and a rotating cam 33, by which the end of the strip is turned over and wound up in contact with the cam surface, and is then preferably transferred to a rolling channel 41 terminating in a receiving trough 42 for the finished plug. The strip 2 is fed from a reel I by rollers 3, a loop being left between the rollers 3 and the table 4, on which the strip is held by a pivoted finger 5, 7. The strip is severed by a rotary cutter 10 and fed to the disc 30 and cam 33 by a gripper 13 pivoted on an arm 17 reciprocated from a crank-disc 23 by means of a connecting-rod 21 and cross-head 18. The gripper is given an up-and-down movement by means of a cam 25 acting upon an arm 27 of the gripper. The end of the gripper is formed with prongs 28, Figs. 4 and 6, which enter shallow grooves 29 in the guide table 4, and with almost horizontal prongs 40. The cam 33 is formed with a pair of cam flanges 35, between which is a groove in which lies a bar 37 secured to the member 39.
