Abstract
452,053. Flying-machines. MALCOLM, A., 66, South Street, Perth. Feb. 26, 1935, No. 6103. [Class 4] A flying-machine comprises a louvred plane of snow-shoe-like outline beneath which is suspended propelling gear comprising air screws adapted to be swivelled about a transverse axis to act either as tractor or as helicopter screws. The plane includes a peripheral frame A, Figs. 1 and 2, and cross members B<1> to B<5>. C<1> and C<2> are front and rear elevators. Longitudinal vanes E are hinged to the cross members and transverse vanes F are hinged to fore-andaft stays. A chassis frame comprises uprights D<1> and bottom rails D<2> ; the latter support propelling mechanism comprising front and rear pairs of air screws G driven by bevel gearing from transverse shafts, Fig. 4. The bevel gear housings may be rotated to alter the line of action of the air screws by lever-androd mechanism actuated by either of two hand levers P<1>, <p2>. Landing legs L are attached to the bevel drive housings. Fluted rudders K<1>, K<2> are provided. Look-out apertures R<1>, R<2> are formed in the plane. The control levers work in gates such that vanes F may be locked in position without preventing control of vanes E.
