Abstract

451,722. Change - speed chain gearing. TRIUMPH CO., Ltd., and PAGE, V., Priory Street, Coventry. June 18, 1935, No. 17498. [Class 80 (ii)] [See also Group XXXI] Relates to change-speed chain gearing for cycles &c. of the kind having an assembly of differentsized sprockets such as 10, 11, 12 slidably splined upon a rotatable hub such as 6, preferably comprising a free-wheel connection 4 and operated from the interior of the hub, all as described in Specification 382,104. This lateral movement is to bring the appropriate sprocket into the constant plane of a single chain, which is shifted automatically on to the new sprocket after the chain-wheel adjustment by the help of a suitable adjacent guide sprocket, not shown. The sliding motion of the sprocket assembly 10, 11, 12 is effected by a sleeve 15 slidably guided by the internal surface of the hub 6. The sprocket assembly has a splined sleeve 9 as a base and this sleeve is connected to the sleeve 15 by a pair of keys 19 which extend through slots 20 in the hub 6. The keys 19 are secured to a flange 17 on the end of the sleeve 15 by a plate 23 which is detachable by means of set screws 24. Alternatively, the plate 23 may screw into the sleeve 15 so as to fit over inwardfitting ends 18 of the keys 19. An inwardly-turned flange 16 on the other end of the sleeve 15 fits between two washers 25, 26 which are pressed together and against a cross-pin 32 by a spring 28. This spring 28 acts against controlling effort applied from a suitable quadrant lever through a cable 30, a rod 29, and the pin 32.
