Abstract
Waste or scrap aluminium or aluminium alloys are recovered or purified by melting with a flux consisting of magnesium chloride and a heavy metal salt such as antimony fluoride, antimony sulphide, cadmium chloride, copper chloride, or zinc chloride, with or without a small amount of magnesium fluoride. The salt mixture may first be fused and solidified, and used in powdered form. The treatment of an aluminium alloy containing 10 per cent of zinc and 2 per cent of copper is referred to.
