450,087. Hinges for tins. SHAW, A. H. DOWNES-, 1, Upper Bolgrave Road, Clifton, RUSSELL, A. S., 6, Cambridge Park, Redland, and ROLLASON, L. J., 15, Valley Road, Bedminster Down, all in Bristol. Doc. 5, 1934, No. 34896. [Class 65 (ii)] [See also Group XVII] In a tin of the type wherein the hinge is formed by interengaging curled edges on the body and the lid, the lid 2 is loosely articulated when closed, but presents a true pivotal bearing when fully open. The hinge comprises an outward curl 3 on the body and a smaller inward curl 8 on the lid. The edges of the body adjacent the lid are turned down to prevent lateral displacement of the lid. A gasket 7 is provided for retaining the vacuum when the lid is vacuumized. Means such as clips may be provided for holding the tins closed after the vacuum has been broken. A removable patch 15 may be provided to facilitate the destruction of the vacuum.
