449,620. Solidifying liquids by cooling. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Millbank, London. Dec. 31, 1934, No. 37409. Convention date, Dec. 30, 1933. [Class 29] Molten materials, particularly caustic soda, calcium chloride and alum, are formed into solid pieces of even shape by applying the molten material to a moving cooled surface, par - ticularly a rotary drum 1, having deep grooves 4, and removing the solid from the grooves by a cutting or digging tool making periodic strokes according to the size of the pieces required. The tool may be a knife 6 reciprocated by a connecting-rod 8, or a rotary radial-bladed cutter may be used. Material may be removed from the surface between the grooves by a scraper 5 and returned to the molten mass in the trough 2.
