Abstract
449,446. Stapling. NAUMANN, R., 28, Bischofsweg, Dresden, Germany. Dec. 6, 1935, No. 33853. Convention date, Jan. 4. [Class 89 (iii)] Sheets 5 to be stitched together to form a block or pad are assembled with their edges flush in an open-topped container 6 provided with an abutment 8 which is adjustable in accordance with the size of the sheets, the front edges of which project beyond the front of the container. The latter is then moved step-by-step past the stitching station 22. To control the spacing of the stitches, a rod 13 on the container carries a roll 12 adapted to engage successive gaps in a guide member 15 secured to the machine table 2. The gaps are formed by turning back the required number of a series of pivoted sections 19 of the member 15. The latter, which is bodily adjustable with respect to the stitching head 1 in order to vary the spacing of the stitches from the front edge of the sheets, has a smooth guiding surface 21 for the sheets. The rod 13 is adjustable on the container 6 in accordance with the width of the sheets. The empty containers are returned to the loading point by a roller conveyer 3.
