Abstract
448,518. Non-automatic couplings for vehicles. DEVLIN, S. R., 9, Buller Street, Derby. Dec. 31, 1934, No. 37417. [Class 103 (v)] In an articulated railway &c. vehicle of the kind in which the ends of two adjacent vehicles are supported upon a common bogie the centre pivot or coupling comprises two half-cup shaped members 10, 10<1>, one on each vehicle, provided with substantially semicircular recesses 21, 21<1> and upstanding lugs 11, 11<1>, over which is placed a locking- ring 16 adapted to couple the vehicles together. The under surfaces of the members 10, 101 are of part spherical shape and accommodated in a corresponding concavity in a foot-step 19 carried by the bolster 18, an antifriction or wear plate 19<1> preferably being interposed. In order to prevent displacement of the ring 16, a bolt 15 is passed through the ring, recessed parts of the members 10, 10<1>. footstep 19, and bolster 18, and is secured at its lower end by a nut 25 and pin 29. A cover-plate 30 with leather dust-excluders attached to its sides may be fitted over the pivot, while oil passages 20 may be formed in the members 10, 101 for lubricating the bearing.
