[Class 103 (vi)] In a railway &c. vehicle bogie of the kind in which the bolster is adapted to pivot simultaneously with the underframe upon a transverse member of the bogie frame, the underframe and bolster are arranged to be readily separable by lifting the former, and the bolster 14, which has a depressed central portion and raised end portions with inclined intermediate parts 18, is provided at its centre with or bearing member 13 adapted to pivot upon a corresponding bearing 9 on the transverse member 8. Vertical depending flanges 15, Fig. 2, of the bolster 14 embrace the vertical sides 7 of the transverse member 8 with sufficient clearance to permit the necessary relative swivelling movement. Within the ends of the bolster are disposed longitudinal bars 19 upon which the under-frame 26 is supported by means of cranked levers 20 having a connection with the underframe through pivoted links 30 and surrounding springs 36. The levers 20 are inserted in position by passing them through openings 32 in the ends of the bolster, while the inner extremities of the levers abut against stops 21 on the bolster. Thus, the bolster partakes of the swivelling movements of the underframe, while the latter is readily separated by lifting, the levers 20 passing through the openings 32. The construction provides for larger space in the centre of the vehicle for the accommodation of power units, transmission and like gear. In a modification, the helical suspension springs 36 are replaced by leaf springs. Specification 448,628 is referred to.
