448,515. Open fires. DOUGLAS, J., 2, Aitchison's Place, Portobello, Midlothian. Dec. 15, 1934, No. 36006. [Class 126] A side air-supply fitting for an open fire designed to facilitate the use of anthracite or coke, is of flat, box-like form having an air inlet opening O at the front and air outlets between grid-bars H on the side next the fuel, in combination with a rising and outwardly diverging passage in which the air flowing through the box is heated. The said passage, leading from the inlet O, comprises the rising part Q and a wide groove M diverging towards the outlet. The passages are formed by means of appropriately shaped refractory blocks N, P, L and the hollow base of the box is fitted with several refractory blocks I projecting somewhat into the fuel bed.
