Abstract

Tyre-covers are placed in moulds and heated internally and externally until they are "set," i.e., for 4-6 mins. past the point at which the rubber is liable to "blow" on removal from the mould; they are then removed, and vulcanization is completed in open steam at a temperature of 250-265 DEG F. According to an example, medium tyres are heated in moulds to 280 DEG F. for 50 min., and are then placed in batches in a steam chamber and heated to 258 DEG F. for 55-75 mins.
