Abstract
446,072. Locks and latches. DOWLING, P., 1, Warren Street, Dublin. Oct. 11, 1935, No. 28036. [Class 44] A single bolt lock comprises a latch bolt 1 which in the position shown can slide into registering slots 9<1> formed in four sliders 2-5 against the action of a spring 10 abutting against a pin 9 on the bolt, but when the bolt is moved further to the left by a key acting on a projection 14 the sliders 2-5 drop by gravity to bring parts 15 behind the bolt to dead-lock it. To release the bolt the sliders are raised by the key until the slots 9<1> are again brought into register with the end of the bolt which is then automatically brought into latching position by a spring 8. Both springs 8, 10 have caps 21 and abut against a stop 12 on the casing in the latching position of the bolt. A follower 13 on a handle spindle enables the latch to be withdrawn. The sliders 2-5 completely fill the depth between front and back of the lock case as also do the bolt 1 and caps 21 as well as a guide block 18 to which the lock cover is secured by screws.
