Abstract
N-Arylglucamines are prepared by the catalytic hydrogenation of monoses in the presence of primary amines of the benzene series at a temperature of 90--140 DEG C. and a pressure of 15--20 atmospheres, the monoses being used in the dissolved state and nickel employed as the catalyst. The products are stable crystalline compounds, of use as intermediates for the manufacture of pharmaceutical substances. According to the examples: (1) a solution of glucose and aniline in aqueous methyl alcohol is heated with hydrogen in an autoclave in the presence of a catalyst prepared by reducing nickel carbonate mounted on kieselguhr, and phenyl-glucamine separated from the product; (2) in the same way, glucose and p-toluidine yield p-tolyl-glucamine, glucose and 4 - acetylamino - 3 - amino - 1 - methylbenzene give 4 - acetylamino - 3 - glucamino - 1 - methylbenzene, and arabinose and mono-acetyl-o-phenylenediamine produce o-acetylamino-arabinaminobenzene. British Specifications 313,617, [Class 2 (iii)], and 426,062 and French Specification 770,294 are referred to.
