Abstract
445,194. Sluice valves. ATELIERS NEYRET-BEYLIER & PICCARD-PICTET, Avenue de Beauvert, Grenoble, IsÚre, France. Sept. 28, 1934, No. 27844. Convention date, Sept. 30, 1933. [Class 68 (ii)] [See also Group I] A flume with a gradually -rest ric - ted section is fitted with a vertical partition or partitions adapted to be moved across the flume so as to divide in any desired ratio the flow, which thus passes to branch channels. Figs. 1 and 2 show a flume with constricted sides b, c and a hump-shaped bottom forming a weir D. These constrictions cause the current to flow at a critical velocity equal to the rate of propagation of surface waves. A partition V, movable about a vertical or approximately vertical axis a, divides the current as desired between the two channels shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 shows in plan a distributing-partition or gate in two parts V<1>, V<2>; the part V<1> is pivoted on a nearly vertical axis a<1>, and the part V<2> moves parallel to the sides b, c of the flume, being constrained by linkwork p. The movements are effected by a screw M. The flume has a hump-shaped bottom, as shown in Fig. 2, but the sides are parallel. In other modifications, the part V<1> is replaced by a staunching-block, and the part V<2> is moved, parallel to itself, by screw gearing ; a part V is fitted in one or both entrances to the branch channels, and is moved by rack-andpinion gearing ; the bottom of the flume may be raised, for example, by means of screw lifting-gear.
