Abstract

444,429. Knitted bifurcated garments. LACKS, F. A., Wolf's Lane, Pelham Manor, New York, U.S.A. Feb. 5, 1935, No. 3750. Convention date, Feb. 5, 1934. [Class 141] [See also Group VIII] A bifurcated garment is made from a single knitted strand by first knitting a leg portion 5 circularly, then knitting the front and back parts of the side portion 3 by reciprocation and progressive narrowing, stitches being dropped to form an unselvaged edge sloping away from the crotch. From the point 9, the knitting is continued by reciprocation and progressive widening as far as the crotch, the dropped stitches being taken up to form a suture seam 11. Between the points 8 and 13, the courses are knitted by reciprocation and progressive narrowing, stitches again being dropped to form a second unselvaged edge sloping away from the crotch. The knitting is continued by reciprocation and progressive widening until the point 8 is again reached, the dropped stitches being taken up to form the suture seam 14. The leg portion 6 is next knitted circularly and joined on. to the leg portion 5 in the crotch which is thus formed without a seam therein. The top 10 of the garment is then severed to form the waist opening. The margins of the waist and leg openings may have elastic trimmings attached to them. The suture seams may be either Y-shaped or V-shaped, as shown.
