Abstract

443,642. Tubes. LOWRY, A. S., Oakwood Mills, Romiley, Cheshire. Sept. 1, 1934, Nos. 25186/34 and 6867/35. [Class 99 (ii)] [See also Groups IX and VIII] A tube to constitute the cover of a roller for spinning and like machines is formed by winding textile thread 14 treated with rubber upon a tube 7, conveniently formed of rolled paper, additional layers 13, 14<a> of rubber and thread being laid if desired. The tube 7 is mounted on a driven mandrel, and thread 14 is wound thereon in close coils by means of a traverse guide 5 and is impregnated by a roller 6 which is pressed against the windings and rotates in a bath of latex. Upon completion of the winding the mandrel may be allowed to run for a few revolutions to ensure the filling of the spaces between the coils. The winding may consist of a foundation of coarse thread and an outer layer of fine thread. The tube 7 may initially be covered with latex, and the final outer layer may consist of latex. According to the second Provisional Specification the latex may be applied by brushing or spraying, and the foundation tubes may be of wood or metal.
