[Class 56] [See also Group X] A wall is lined with glass bars or plates 1 which are produced by a blowing process, and are each provided with integral flanges 2 running along two edges and so formed as to provide channel-shaped or undercut spaces 3 on the underside of the bar or plate for the reception of the fixing mortar 5. The spaces 3 may be provided by inwardly inclining the flanges 2 as shown in Fig. 1, or by forming the latter step-shaped as shown in Fig. 5. The upper edge of the plate may be formed with a stepped projection 7, Fig. 3, providing a recess for the adjacent upper plate and also a recess 8 below the projection for engaging with the fixing mortar. The outer face of the plate may be convex or ribbed. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also (1) the provision at any desired position on the inner surface of the bar or plate of a transverse recess for the reception of mortar, and (2) the formation of an additional undercut rib extending lengthwise of the bar or plate and on the inner face thereof. Bars or plates are formed with such ribs by means of a wooden cylindrical mould provided with inwardly-projecting knives corresponding in number to the number of bars or plates to be produced at a time. A blown cylinder of glass is pushed into the mould and given a repeated reciprocating movement therein so that the knives compress inwardly the glass to form the ribs ; when the glass cylinder is withdrawn it is cut lengthwise to form bars or plates each provided with a rib, which is then deformed to provide an undercut formation.
