442,968. Extruding plastic substances. SAMIC SOC. ANON., 14, Canal d'Hanswyck, Malines, Belgium. Jan. 12, 1935, No. 1147. Convention date, Jan. 13, 1934. [Class 87 (ii)] An apparatus for working up and de-aerating plastic masses comprises a mixer 7 connected to an extrusion press 10 through a duct 9 to which suction is applied through conduits 8 and which is provided with a pair of channelled feed rollers 14 and disintegrating plates 15, 16, a slide 12 being provided for shutting off the mixer from the duct, and the outlet of the press being provided with a removable closure 13. The material is agitated in the mixer by perforated arms 20 carried by a driven shaft 19. The plates 15, 16 are provided respectively with transverse bars 17, 171 having grooved sides, the bars 17 being arranged at right angles to the bars 17<1>. A knife 18 is situated between each pair of bars. When the apparatus is used with organic raw material, a further disintegrating plate may be provided in the outlet of the press 10. In use, the duct 9 and press 10 are evacuated with the slide 12 closed and the closure 13 in position, whereupon the slide 12 is opened and the plastic material in the mixer is fed through the apparatus where it is de-aerated, the cap 13 being removed by the extruded material.
