Abstract
Azo dyes are formed on vegetable fibre by coupling thereon a diazo compound of an amine of the formula <FORM:0441590/IV/1> where R is a phenyl residue with an arylide of an o-hydroxycarboxylic acid, in a medium buffered to pH 6,5--5. In examples the following dyes are produced on cotton in the presence of primary potassium and sodium phosphate respectively: (1) 4 - (1<1> - methyl) - phenoxyacetylamino - 2 : 5 - diethoxy - 1 - aniline --> the a -naphthylamide of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid (blue); (2) 4 - (1<1> - methyl) - phenoxyacetylamino - 2 : 5 - dimethoxy - 1 - aniline --> the p-phenetidide of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid (violet). Other components specified are 4-phenoxyacetylamino - 2 : 5 - diethoxy - 1 - aniline and its 1<1>-chloro and 2<1>- or 3<1>-methyl derivatives; the anilide, m-toluidide and m-chloranilide of 2 : 3-oxynaphthoic acid and the arylides of 2 : 3-oxyanthracene carboxylic acid. Specifications 377,271 and 439,256 are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the manufacture of the dyes in substance. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
