Abstract

439,377. Refacing stonework surfaces. SZERELMEY, Ltd., and BLOXHAM, F., 273, Rotherhithe New Road, London. Aug. 15, 1934, No. 23546. [Class 20 (iv)] A method of restoring broken or decayed stonework consists in the employment of interengaging metal elements a, d adapted to be positioned by means of keys caused to engage in the stonework to be treated prior to the application of a plastic restoring composition which subsequently sets around, and is reinforced by, the said metal elements. The metal elements a constitute the keys which are inserted in holes bored in the stonework and are fixed in position by a suitable packing, such as lead or cement. The ends of the elements a are provided with eyes c, through which the rods d are threaded, and the plastic restoring composition is applied over and around the rods d. Two eyes c may be provided on each element a to permit the passage of rods to form a grid structure. The rods d may be formed or provided with means, such as lock nuts, keys or wedges, to fix the rods d relatively to the members a. The elements a may be serrated as shown at b, Fig. 2, or they may be threaded or notched throughout their lengths.
