Abstract
439,291. Sand-blast. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd., and GLINN, R. J., Babcock House, Farringdon Street, London. June 1, 1934, Nos. 16354/34 and 7464/35. [Class 60] [See also Group XXVIII] The tubes of a boiler &c. are cleaned by a sand blast which is projected onto the boiler tubes through a tube 5 located within a tubular body 1 mounted on the wall box 2, the blower tube 5 being provided at its outlet end with a nozzle 7 and at the other end with actuating means whereby it is advanced into and retracted from the boiler furnace. The blower tube has secured to it a sleeve 4 which is supported in a bracket 6 carried by an inclined plate 3<a> on the wall box and is provided with a pin or stud 10 to cooperate with a longitudinal slot 11 terminating in a transverse or helical extension 11<a> in the said bracket, the slot 11 preventing rotation of the blower tube until it is in its projected position. The actuating means may comprise an ordinary hand wheel or, as shown, a shaft 20 rotatable by a hand wheel 21 and provided with a pinion 19 which engages a rack 18 on the underside of a slide 14 secured to the blower tube. In a modification the blower is composed of two tubes, one for high-pressure air and the other for gravel which is conveyed therethrough by low-pressure air.
