Abstract
438,031. Snap - action switches. COOKSON, E., 11, Granville Road, Blackpool. March 10, 1934, Nos. 7643/34 and 7482/35. [Class 38 (v)] [See also Group [XXXVI] A switch operated or controlled by a pin 16 of a plug member 15 comprises a pair of contact arms 17 connected by an insulating cross-bar 19 to which an operating-spring 20 is attached, the other end of the spring being attached to a lever 21, Fig. 3, 27, Fig. 6, rocking on a pivot 22 to move the line of action of the spring 20 to one side or the other of the pivot 17<a> of the arms 17 so as to give a quick make-and-break dead-centre action. The side of the aperture 21<a> in the lever 21 or of the fork 27b of the lever 27 engages the cross-bar 19 to give positive actuation of the arms 17 prior to the spring passing the dead-centre. In the form shown in Fig. 3 the lever 21 is operated directly by the plug 16 and a return spring 23 so that the switch is closed by insertion of the plug and opened by the spring on its removal. In the form shown in Fig. 6, the plug 16 depresses a separate lever 26 on insertion thereby removing the pressure of the spring 23 from the lever 27 which is furnished with a handle 28 for opening and closing the switch. On removal of the plug the spring 23 is allowed to act on the lever 27 whereby the switch is opened.
