Abstract
437,059. Spinning-spindle bearings. REDDIE, R., Lancaster Drive, Knoxville, Tennessee, U.S.A. July 30, 1934, No. 22239. Convention date, Aug. 11, 1933. [Classes 12 (i) and 12 (ii)] In a combined bolster and footstep bearing, oil in a reservoir 10 passes downwardly through a space 11 between the bolster 5 and casing 2 and upwardly through a duct 12 to the step bearing 9. The spindle including the neck bearing portion 41 thereof is tapered so that upon rotation of the spindle the oil flows upwardly and over the top of the bolster 5. Longitudinal grooves 15 on the outside of the bolster permit the oil to return to the space 11. A key 6 on the bolster prevents relative movement between the bolster and casing. The duct 12 may communicate with an annular groove 13 on the outside of the outside of the bolster ; in this case the lower end of the duct 12 is blocked. As shown, the bolster tube 5 is formed of three parts 5<1>, 5<11>, 5<111>, the central portion 51 consisting of a seamless tube.
