Abstract

228,417. Smith, W. Prince-, and Waterhouse, D. June 4, 1924. Ball bearings; dust, excluding. - Relates to spindles for spinning. doubling and like machines of the kind which revolve in ball bearings disposed within tubular housings secured in apertures in the spindle rail and are driven by wharls secured thereon. The inner races of the ball bearings D, D<1> are fast on the spindle and are spaced apart by a sleeve on a shoulder g of the the upper bearing rests E; and the outer race of housing G and the outer race d<3> of the lower bearing fits within a machined surface at the lower end of the housing and is permitted to find its own position to ensure alignment. Lubricant is supplied through a passage B<2> and is retained in the housing by means of a cap J. The wharl is recessed to form a skirt B<1> which surrounds the neck of the housing and prevents entry of dirt to the bearings.
