Abstract
435,550. Washing gases. YARDLEY, W. H., 124, Blair Athol Road, Ecclesall, Sheffield. March 19, 1934, No. 8504. [Class 55 (ii)] In apparatus for washing gases in which liquid falls over several rows of helical blades 10 disposed vertically in a casing 1, the blades in each row touch one another and the blades of one row are staggered with respect to and spaced apart from those in adjacent rows to form tortuous passages for the horizontal passage of gas. The liquid is recirculated from a tank 4 in the bottom of the casing by a pump 16 and fed on to a perforated plate 15 above the blades. The adjacent blades of a row have helices in the opposite directions. A similar battery of dry blades may be arranged behind the wet battery so as to extract drops of moisture from the gas.
