Abstract

[Class 29] Compression machines and systems.-The circulation of refrigerant is regulated by a pump interposed between the condenser and the evaporator and having a discharge valve loaded so as to open only when the pressure developed by the pump exceeds that in the condenser. The pump is connected by pipes 6, 10 with the condenser and the evaporator respectively. In its uppermost position the piston uncovers the pipe 6 so that refrigerant liquid and vapour pass into the cylinder, the refrigerant liquid being discharged through the spring-loaded valve 5 during the downstroke of the piston. The cylinder clearance space, piston stroke, and loading of the valve are adjusted so that the valve opens only so long as the clearance space contains a predetermined quantity of refrigerant liquid. Lubricant is supplied through the pipe 11 to the piston.
